What is the Fachsprachprüfung?
The Fachsprachprüfung (FSP) tests whether doctors with a foreign medical degree have the specialized German language skills needed to practice medicine in Germany. It is administered by the regional medical boards (Landesärztekammern) and is typically required as part of the Approbation process when a degree is professionally recognized but language competence still needs to be demonstrated separately.
The exam usually has three parts: a simulated patient interview (Anamnesegespräch), a written case report based on that interview, and a doctor-to-doctor discussion where the case is presented using correct medical terminology. The exact format can vary slightly between federal states and medical boards.
